Non-Toxic Nail Polish

I am a girl who loves to have her nails painted. It just makes me feel better and more put together, and I am positive that I am not alone here. A few years ago, I started researching and learning about all the health harming chemicals commonly found in regular nail polish. I am a huge advocate for removing as many of the toxins in our daily lives as possible, but honestly, nail polish just wasn't even on my radar until then. I didn't even think about it as I was cleaning up my skincare routine and tossing harmful household cleaners. But when you know better, you do better, right?

Nail polish, like so many products in the beauty industry, contains toxic ingredients and chemicals that are linked to a variety of issues from skin irritations, hormone and endocrine issues, reproductive issues and cancer. The bright side is that there are many affordable non-toxic nail polish options to choose from today. And, don't worry, this doesn't mean you have to ditch your beloved trip to the nail salon! There are non-toxic nail salons popping up all over the country, but if you don't live near one, you can easily purchase your own non-toxic polish and take it to the salon with you.

I have personally tried a few different brands, but my current go-to is Sundays. It is a 10-free polish, meaning it is made without the top 10 harmful chemicals commonly found in regular polish. There is also a kiddo friendly non-toxic brand called Piggy Paint that is super affordable and low odor for anyone sensitive to the smell of nail polish.

The top chemicals you want to watch out for in your polish are: dibutyl phthalate, triphenylphosphate (TPHP), toluene, xylene, ethyl tosylamide, camphor, formaldehyde, formaldehyde resin, parabens, and acetone.

Happy polishing!
